Pushing full cloud native adoption like API Gateways and FaaS can be an uphill battle even when decision makers are already screaming, ‘Get it to the Cloud!’ Translating a traditional concept like APIs into a Cloud Product can give it that final push. The Big Four Cloud Providers AWS, Azure, GCP, and IBM all provide an native API solution. Using them takes advantage of the built in optimizations in those clouds. What about THE API Gateway? Netflix released a paper outlining how they used a Gateway to traffic data to their other internal APIs from different clients. The pinnacle of Micro-Service architecture, this was very flashy to decision makers.
This talk will go over the process of migrating an API to the cloud, building a new one, and whether or not the Netflix Model is even possible using these Cloud Native solutions.
